Fostering in Scotland
Supporting foster families across Dundee, Aberdeen, Perth, Fife, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Becoming a foster carer in Scotland
We’re delighted you want to find out more about becoming a foster carer. Our team live and work in communities right across Scotland — from Edinburgh to Aberdeen, and Dundee to Glasgow.
The Care Inspectorate gave us a ‘Very Good’ rating in every area of our service. That recognition shows the quality of support you get from our friendly and enthusiastic team.
We hope you find all the information you need to get a real sense of our local team and what we can offer. If you’d like to ask any questions, just give us a call — we’re always happy to help.
Why foster with Fostering People in Scotland?
Scotland urgently needs more foster families. Right now, more than 12,500 children need care, but only 3,261 families are approved to foster. That’s why we’re always looking for amazing people, just like you, who want to make a real difference in a child’s life.
We work with every local authority in Scotland and match children of all ages — from babies to young adults — with foster families. Each year, we receive hundreds of requests, and the need for foster carers keeps growing.
Support you can count on
Fostering People Scotland is a not-for-profit, independent agency. We’re currently recruiting foster parents across Aberdeenshire, the Lothians and the West of Scotland. We especially need people who can care for siblings or offer long-term placements. That stability gives young people the chance to grow up in a forever family until they reach independence.
When you foster with us, you’ll join a close-knit, supportive, child-focused team. We value every foster parent as an individual. We’ll get to know you personally and listen to what matters most to you. Because we’re small enough, your voice shapes how we work — while you also benefit from the wider Fostering People organisation.
Our team bring both professional and personal fostering experience. Some of us foster children ourselves, and others grew up in fostering families. That mix of lived and professional experience means we can support you with genuine understanding and compassion.
We’ll also make sure you and your family feel part of our community. You’ll be invited to events and activities designed for everyone. Past favourites include zoo trips, baking competitions, parties, picnics, trampolining, go-karting and bowling.

Could you foster in Scotland?
We welcome applications from anyone interested in fostering regardless of your sexuality or gender, whether you’re single, married or living with a partner, as long as you have been living together for a year or more. All that we ask is that you:
- Are over 21 years old
- Have the legal right to live and work in the UK
- Have a spare bedroom that’s always available to a child
- Can offer a stable, loving home to a child

Meet our foster care Scotland team
Our Scotland team is led by Registered Manager, Cassie Yeaman. Cassie has worked in fostering for more than 30 years and has been part of Fostering People since we opened in 2012.
She’s supported by a dedicated team of social workers and support staff who live across Scotland. That means our foster families always receive local, face-to-face support from people who truly understand their community.
Here’s what Cassie says about her journey:
“I’ve been a qualified social worker for over 20 years and have always worked with children, young people and foster carers. I joined Fostering People in 2012, when we had no foster carers, staff or even an office!
I’m so proud of how we’ve grown and developed since then. Today, we have a highly experienced, hardworking team and many wonderful foster families providing outstanding care. I feel very privileged to work with such dedicated and inspiring people.”
Our Pledge
Our commitment to ‘The Promise’ for Scotland’s children and young people.
“At Fostering People Scotland, we’ve always worked to make sure every child and young person in our care feels loved, valued and respected. We also stay ambitious for every child’s future.
That’s why we support the recommendations of The Promise and want to achieve lasting, positive change for children and young people across Scotland.
We’ll do everything we can to #KeepThePromise. Our team continue to look for ways to put the Independent Care Review’s recommendations into action here at Fostering People Scotland.”
— Cassie Yeaman, Registered Manager
