Amber Mann - Keep the Promise Change Officer

I am the Keep the Promise Change Officer at Fostering People Scotland, and a member of the School Through My Eyes development team.

School Through My Eyes is a project I am very passionate about, I believe that children and young people in Scotland deserve to have a fully comprehensive education and should have equal opportunities but unfortunately is it too often the case that care-experienced people are disadvantaged.

I believe School Through My Eyes is different than other training resources currently available, as it is led by the children and young people who are currently living their school experience, we have a first-hand account of their stories which is incredibly powerful and I hope this will drive more change for education in Scotland.

I have worked in fostering for over 5 years now, and, in 2022 I began working directly with care-experienced young people and their foster families. This direct work fuelled my passion for supporting others and working together with our young people to implement change that ensures their voices, experiences, and views are appropriately listened to.

I am very grateful for the opportunity to work with children and young people who have experienced care, hearing first-hand about their experiences has inspired me to want to do more which is why, alongside creating School Through My Eyes, I am studying part-time with the Open University to complete a degree in Social Work.

Cassie Yeaman - Registered Manager, Fostering People Scotland

I’m Cassie and I am a social worker and manager with Fostering People Scotland. I have been a social worker for over 20 years and most of my career has been spent working with children, young people, and foster carers. I am really passionate about Keeping The Promise and working to improve experiences and outcomes for care-experienced children and young people.

I am very excited about the School Through My Eyes project as I think it has the potential to address some of the key challenges faced by care experienced young people in regards to Education. I will be supporting Amber in her role and I am also looking forward to getting involved directly with events and activities. We really want to hear the voices of all those who are involved; young people, teaching staff, foster carers, and other professionals so I would encourage anyone with an interest to get involved through completing our questionnaires, arranging to meet us, or attending one of our events.

Abbi - Ambassador

Hi, I’m Abbi. I am 19 years old and a young person with experience of care. I am currently studying nursing at University and live with my foster family in continuing care.

I’m so excited to work with Amber and the team on School Through My Eyes, I’m very passionate about this project and improving the outcomes for care-experienced children and young people.

I hope that in sharing my experiences, it helps to raise awareness and reminds young people that you are not alone and your voice matters!
