Fostering People foster carer Geri Brown was awarded North West Volunteer of the year 2018 from Barnardo’s in recognition of the work that she has done as an Independent Visitor.

Geri who has been fostering for 4 and a half years, has been a Barnardo’s volunteer alongside her fostering role for 3 years.  It’s a role she is passionate about and shows her dedication to looked after children as a foster carer and as an independent visitor for a young girl. Geri has been an independent visitor for the same young person for 2 year which she really enjoys and which is providing great continuity for the young person.  Geri’s role involves taking the young person to variety of activities and she feels that the one to one time the young person gets from her visits is really important.

Geri also interviews young people for Wirral Social Services before foster carer reviews to gain independent feedback on their foster carers and thinks that this is really important to get the information from an impartial person.

Geri has also completed some very useful training as an independent visitor which she feels also complements her fostering training and sometimes compares to FP training.

We are very proud of Geri's achievement and wish her continued success.
