Fostering in Middlesbrough

Becoming a foster parent Middlesbrough

Do you live in Middlesbrough or the surrounding areas? Are you interested in fostering? You could make an incredible difference to a child’s life by fostering in Middlesborough.

Since 2013, Ofsted has rated us ‘Outstanding’ in every area. That achievement makes us one of the best independent agencies, and our team will give you the highest level of support.

We hope you find all the information you need to get a real sense of our local team and what we can offer. If you’d like to ask any questions, just give us a call — we’re always here to help.

Why foster with Fostering People in Middlesbrough?

Middlesbrough needs more foster families — 513 children currently live in care, and that number keeps rising. We’re always looking for amazing people, just like you, who want to make a real difference in a child’s life.

We work closely with every Local Authority in the region. This keeps our foster families in high demand and allows us to match children with the family best suited to their needs. That means placements happen quickly, and children get the care they need without delay.

As an ‘Outstanding’ agency, we give every foster parent a dedicated, experienced supervising social worker. You’ll also join a close-knit community of foster families who support each other every step of the way.

We know strong relationships form the heart of a safe, nurturing home. That’s why we focus on building lasting connections with our families, so you can feel confident creating safe and supportive bonds with the children in your care.

When you foster with us, we’ll provide an excellent package of support — and we keep improving it every year. We’re proud of our achievements, but we never stop finding ways to make fostering even better.

Going the extra mile to provide outstanding support

We understand what matters most in fostering. That’s why we go the extra mile to give you training, guidance, and support that help children thrive in their communities.

Local authorities refer hundreds of children to us every year, highlighting the urgent need for more foster families.

We’re looking for foster parents who can care for children of all ages, especially those over 10. We also often receive referrals for sibling groups, so if you have extra space at home, you could help keep brothers and sisters together.

Could you foster in Middlesbrough?

We welcome applications from anyone who wants to foster. It doesn’t matter about your sexuality or gender. You can be single, married, or living with a partner — as long as you’ve lived together for at least a year.

All we ask is that you:

  • Are over 21 years old
  • Have the legal right to live and work in the UK
  • Keep a spare bedroom always available to a child
  • Offer a stable, loving home

Meet our Middlesbrough foster care team

Our team is headed up by Service Manger, Lynne Maddocks, she’s been part of our fostering community for over 25 years.

Our Team Manager Mark Briggs, has been with Fostering People for over 15 years and they are both joined by 4 Senior Supervising Social Workers who live across the North East region.

How our local team works

Fostering People in the North East doesn’t rely on an office base. Our social workers live and work in the same communities as our foster families.

Because your social worker lives nearby, you’ll always get quick access to local support. They know the area well, so they can guide you to extra resources if a child in your care ever needs them.

We use local community venues for support groups and face-to-face training. We choose these venues together with our foster parents, so they’re always easy to get to. This approach gives us more flexibility than using an office.

We introduced our home-based model years ago — long before the pandemic — and it works brilliantly for foster parents and staff.

Since 2013, Ofsted has rated us ‘Outstanding’ every year. That rating shows how well our approach works. In the North East, we’ve built a close-knit fostering community. Our way of working encourages friendships between foster parents, giving extra support and guidance. We always give new foster families a warm welcome into our North East fostering family.
