IT Survey engages Fostering People Carers

May 18, 2010

Fostering People recently conducted an IT survey of all of our foster carers.  The survey was commissioned to gain a better understanding of our carers IT skills and to see if any of our carers would benefit from the government initiative to give computer and broadband grants to those families caring for Looked After Children.

A staggering 92% of our carers responded to the questionnaire, giving us almost complete representation of our carers and great insight into their IT skills and home IT access.

97% of our carers have a home PC and of those 74% have computer access available for a Young Person they look after.

76% of our carers feel very comfortable using a computer and the internet and only 6% stated that they are unable to use a computer.

Having such a great response and understanding that such a large proportion of our carers our IT literate and that our young people have a good level of access to a computer means that we can use this information to consider how we can provide further support for our foster carers and young people.

One idea currently being considered is the use of a CarerNet - giving Fostering People Foster Carers access to information from the agency available to them at the touch of a button.
