Independent Fostering Agencies (IFA's)

Are you thinking about fostering but a little unsure about the role of an Independent Fostering Agency and where they fit into the fostering process?

Have you considered the benefits of fostering with an Independent Fostering Agency as opposed to a Local Authority?

What is an Independent Fostering Agency (IFA)?

Firstly, it’s important to understand what is an Independent Fostering Agency? IFA's, like Fostering People, are privately owned companies that provide a fostering service to Local Authorities, offering placements with foster carers. As an IFA, Fostering People is registered and inspected by ofsted.

There is currently a shortage of up to 10,000 foster carers in the UK and Independent Fostering Agencies such as Fostering People are playing a vital role in providing much needed placements for children and young people.

In order to ensure the provision of the highest quality care, IFA’s are subject to the strictest regulations and ofsted inspection.

Why foster with an Independent Fostering Agency (IFA)?

Fostering with an IFA can provide you with many benefits – often linked to the relationship that is shared between a foster carer and their organisation.

And that’s why our foster carers choose to foster – and continue to foster – with us, because of the unique relationship that we share with them. When you foster with Fostering People you become part of the organisation, and that means that we’re on hand to offer any advice, guidance, foster carer training or fostering support that you need in your time as a foster carer.

Fostering People is focussed organisation where fostering alone is our core service - and that's where we excel.

We have a huge passion for providing the very best fostering service to our carers. Ultimately, it’s an approach that’s producing some outstanding outcomes for the children and young people in our care.
